I am using Elmo to get her to understand it's not OK to hit- even in fun. After she hits Elmo, Elmo "hides" and she'll put her arm around him, hug him, and say, "I'm sorry." All this time my hand is in the back of him.
Good friends also know how to yell "boo" to each other which makes them dissolve in laughter:
And, when you're taking a picture with your good friend you always put your arm around them.
Now, I understand that other kids may have or will do similar. I've just never had a child who seemingly so believed this puppet was really the one talking. I'm thinking to myself, "Don't you see my mouth moving? Do you not hear that Elmo sounds a little bit like Mommy, or Caleb, or Daddy?"
