What happened at the Cleft Clinic

March 14, Worthy and I went to the cleft clinic. It's an all day clinic where you visit all the doctors related to repairing and monitoring the cleft lip/cleft palate. We got to see a speech therapist, a dentist, the audiologist, a nurse, and it all comes together in the end with a room full of around 10 doctors who all tell Amanda to say "ahhhh".

Our favorite and most meaningful doctor to see was the audiologist. Amanda's right ear showed normal hearing for the first time in 2 1/2 years. Here is the full scoop on that ear. In November, 2009, she failed her first hearing test - both ears. No problem, it could be due to all the trauma and ear infection she was just getting over. We'll wait and see. In December, 2009, she went to get ear tubes placed. The "surgery" lasted 5 minutes when they discovered that both ear drums were ruptured. They had already holes in them and you can't put ear tubes in ruptured ear drums.

In March, 2010, she visits the cleft clinic for the first time. She fails another hearing test. Because she has failed two hearing tests, she automatically gets to participate in a sedated hearing test where they test her ears accurately in order to test her specific hearing loss so that they can get her hearing aids to help her hear correctly until she can have surgery to fix the ruptured ear drums. Summer of 2010, she gets hearing aids specifically programed for her specific hearing loss.

In March, 2011, she visits the cleft clinic again and fails the hearing test without her hearing aids. When using her hearing aids, she passes.

Now, we are up to March 2012. She passes her hearing test in her right ear. The doctors all get together for the final meeting and the Ear Nose Throat doctor says, "Nice news about her ear. This type of spontaneous regeneration usually doesn't happen." My response? "Worthy has been telling me that Jesus healed her ear. I guess he did." ENT says, "Go Jesus...Assuming Jesus doesn't heal the other ear, we can fix that next year."

Final conclusion? Jesus miraculously healed Worthy's right ear. She is no longer wearing a hearing aid in that ear. Go Jesus indeed.
