So, I got Praise's IEP (Individualized Education Plan) from his teacher yesterday. Inside of this thing are all the goals for him to work on during the year. But this IEP had a new plan at the back. Basically, his evacuation plan. When he's on the first floor, in case of emergency, they wheel him outside using the nearest exit. Easy peasy. BUT, when he is on the second floor, things get complicated if there's ever a fire. He has to be wheeled to a fire-proof room of which there are two on the second floor. His Educational Assistant needs to have a two way radio, a thermal blanket in case of inclement weather, and his plan of escape all together in his backpack. His EA will then communicate where he is at all times. The people who get this plan are the Principle, the District Office, and the Fire Department. It is somewhat reassuring that they have such a detailed plan. It makes me feel like he's a dignitary.
Now, the reason they need this plan is only if he's on the second floor of the building. The reason he goes to the second floor is for art class(which he really dislikes) So he.can.color. If I were them, I would just keep him on the ground floor for simplicities sake. But, we need to be inclusive. WOW...
